Teen Depression: New Beginnings
If you are a teenager struggling with depression, I want you to know that you still have a long life ahead of you with many chances to be happy. No matter how many bad thoughts you have, and no matter how many times you've thought about harming yourself, there is always hope. Seeking treatment for your bad thoughts is a scary step for anyone, as we all worry about the stigma it creates and the side effects of medication. It doesn't have to be so scary, though, as the internet is a helpful tool for finding information about treatment and choosing the right type of treatment for you.
There is one barrier, though, that troubles many depressed teens. Admitting that you are depressed is a hard step for so many teens in itself, as your parents and friends often have unrealistic expectations of you. They seem to think you must look and act perfect. Anonymous treatment is something that many want when it comes to their depression, but, sometimes, it helps to have a good friend who knows what you are going through. If you have someone who you can trust, maybe a school counselor or an online friend, try to tell them about your depression. It could be your first step to gaining the treatment that you need. As always, don't give up.
When you suffer from depression, starting treatment is the first step towards recovery. It's a new beginning, one that may make you feel better about yourself. Doesn't it sound promising? All of those days you have suffered will seem insignificant when you learn to breathe once again. You'll feel...better. That's the only way I can describe it. Everyone needs a little help in life, whether it's me, you, a famous person, or even our world's leaders.
Every time we start again, it's difficult. We always feel as if we’ve lost something. When we start treatment for our depression, we will always have a bit of difficulty. We will always feel as if we've been branded, and the other kids at school are judging you. Don't worry about that. If people are really your friends, then it won't matter. They'll love you, regardlessly, despite anything and everything.
As for your parents, they may not understand, but, they can, if you help them to realize what you are going through. Talk to a doctor, tell them what you are going through. They can help you get treatment and explain to your parents what you are going through. You can start again, and, like I always say, it all starts by telling someone what you are going through.
Finally, I want to mention if you are having thoughts of hurting yourself, tell someone right away. I don't want to lose you, nor does everyone else who loves you. Your life can be beautiful if you can make the first step. There are many suicide help lines you can call if you need them. Please, I'm begging you, don't give up.
