The Fantasy Of Religion
Religion is the fantasy we all want to believe. Are we really defined by a belief system? Is there really an all powerful being that created us? I can't say for sure...isn’t that how it works? Faith stipulates that what we believe in may or may not be true. Faith sucks, that's for sure. One might ask if we should even bother with religion. That's a tough question, even for me. Sometimes I find religion to be little more than a crutch. The question that I face is; do I need that crutch?
My enlightenment has served me well. It has given me my own reasoning that enables me to think without a god. I do believe in one, strangely enough, but sometimes I fear that it is nothing more than a myth to make me more altruistic. My god is the incarnation of the earth, Gaea. However, I have one reservation that separates my myth from the reality of life. My angels are numerous, and I adore them. I know they're not gods, but they have guarded me and done nothing but love me. They are my patron deities, creatures that are hobs, or protective guardians. They are worthy of my praise and adoration. Screw the gods. My friendly spiritual companions gave me the ability to do a rare thing called love. Is this not what a god allows one to do? Feel safe and loved? Surly my theory is not wrong. My angels are my gods. Can not anything be a god, after all?
The fantasy of delusion has caused many nations to fashion gods after their own liking. Is this right or wrong? It's not up to me to decide. I hate the fact that we even need a god to rule over our lives, but for some people it seems almost necessary. We will never leave our fantasies that surrounds the myth that is religion. I don't really believe in a heaven or hell as I believe in an eternal place of rest for all of the dead. Whether those dead are blessed or cursed is not my decision. I am not fit to judge humanity's actions, and this is where perhaps my own perception fails. Does this requite the need for a benevolent and fair judge? Maybe.
Religion is definitely something born out of humanity's fear and inequity. It was introduced into civilization because of the intense fear that comes with the fact that bodies die. We don't want to believe that we die and that's it for us. We want to have a place for us to go after we die merely because we are afraid of death. Why should anyone fear death? There's one reason why we fear death that is completely psychological. We fear death because it is an undefined area. We fear death because we don't know what happens. That's right. We fear death mostly because we don't know what happens after we die. We are so afraid of the unknown that accompanies us after we die that we constructed a fantasy called religion to help us cope. So, what promising aspect do we have left? Perhaps man and woman inadvertently made their own god to rule over them. This is really the true state of religion, one that exits on the fringe of both fantasy and reality. Perhaps the fantasy is what really makes us believe in the broken promise that is religion. Ciao!
