Halloween: The Goods, The Bads, And The Don'ts
Halloween can be a fun time of year for both children and adults. But there are many things to understand about Halloween safety. I'm sure you've heard many, and that's just why I'm here to make this article new and interesting, as always.
Halloween, Fun To Some And A Nightmare To Most
Halloween is a spooky day and a fun time to gather. Children love the prospect of Halloween carnivals and candy, and adults love it for the costume parties and more. However, there is much hidden evil to this holiday, more than the implied. Kidnappers, child molesters, and rapists are all out and about during this time of the year. Also, it would be wise to bring your pets inside during this time of the year. This holiday can be a living nightmare for parents, children, young adults, and pets alike.
If you are going to pass out candy then you need to make sure your house is clearly lit. Only buy candy that is packaged and make sure there are no openings in the package. Distribute a couple pieces of candy at a time, so you are sure you'll have enough for all trick-or-treaters.
If you have children going trick-or-treating then you absolutely need to go with them, preferably both parents. A kidnapper can easily overcome one adult. Make sure one or both of you carry a cellphone, as the police in any situation are your best friend. Never let your children go with other children alone, even if they are older. If you do have an older child who likes halloween, encourage them to seek organized events with chaperons. Several larger cities have safe events for children and parents to gather, be it in a mall or school etc. While supervising, make sure to bring a flashlight. Try to limit trick-or-treating to your own neighborhood, where you know your neighbors and have some sort of trust in them.
Adult Safety
Usual things apply to any drinking nights or parties. Make sure to have a designated driver. Be careful who you socialize with: people can wear masks that aren't just for costumes. Better yet, bring a date to parties, even if they are just a friend. Avoid going home with strangers, as this goes without saying. In all other regards, enjoy! It's one of the most awesome nights of the year.
Now be aware that this holiday is one that has been gravitating to the darker side for years. What was once a small town's dream has become littered with all sorts of mischief, And I'm not talking about all you ghouls out there! Eat, drink, and be merry. Next we will talk about some of the orgins of the holiday.
The Origins Of Halloween
Halloween is the day before All Saint's Day. It is believed the other world, the "Spirit World" will be closest to the earthly world; particularly late night/early morning Oct 31st/Nov 1st. The pagans came up with the idea of dressing up in scary costumes in hopes of frightening away the spirits in our world, because of the spirits increased presence. So that's it, the holiday is of pagan origin, which might indicate why most businesses don't officially recognize it on the calendar.
Conclusion/Recap
Halloween is a holiday which kids love. Do not deprive them of this opportunity. Be safe and vigilant, and make sure your children are safe. Adults should exercise caution at parties, as well as anytime of year. Keep your pets locked up, and make sure your house is well lit for trick or treaters. Your child's safety should always be your number one concern. Halloween only comes once a year, so enjoy the holiday to its fullest. Remember, be safe and have fun.
