Spiritual Discretion

  Spiritual Discretion

Such an absurd thing. You may think "spiritual discretion? What is that?" Quite simply, spiritual discretion is the identification of associated spiritual habits  and making the personal decision whether or not it is right for you. Not all spiritual practices are meant for you, let alone everyone. It is completely up to you and you alone to decide what spiritual practices are right for you. (Let alone any type of activity, be it spiritual or not.)

When we become adults, we finally have the ability to make our own choices. As children our parents dictate nearly everything we do, and let's face it, even our spiritual choices. Every child does not want to attend every spiritual meeting their parents go to. (Or any, often.) When we grow older, we may become enlightened enough to investigate different spiritual and philosophical paths. When this happens, one of two things often occur: we latch on to whatever philosophy that we can grasp, or we go down the path that our peers have chosen. Neither of these choices are good ones, and this is the time we wish we had used our greater discretion.

How can we make informed decisions about our spiritual life? Personal research and investigation are often the best decision. By doing this we will become more spiritually informed. Our knowledge increases wether or not we incorporate the spiritual practice or philosophy into our lives, and our wisdom grows with each decision we freely make. Freedom itself is a spiritual practice, and independent decision making is one of the best things we can do.

The Heart of it All

More and more people these days are living a life devoid of spirituality. We discuss spirituality here often, but for you who may be reading this blog for the first time, let me ask you something: is a life with no belief in an eternal existence worth it? Ultimately, the decision is yours. We have this thing many believe in called free will and it is yours to exercise as you see fit.

Yet, there is something that dwells at our core. Its the heart of this matter. There is something inside of us, called the heart.  Whether or not the heart feels any real emotions or its just another muscle is anyone's guess. Through human emotion, though, we make decisions which are indeed spiritual. Often, too. We hardly realize when we make s decision about the path we are walking. The decisions we make today, for better or for worse, effect what happens to us in the future. (Hence karma.)  To believe there is no spirituality in this life is absurd.

  Discretion Advised

Discretion is needed in all we do, and I hope that you are wise enough to not be pressured into things. You are a free person, as I mentioned, and the last thing you want to do is follow someone else's path. (That may be one of the single most important things I've ever said. Your path is completely your own.)  When you feel completely alone in this universe, remember: your discretion will always lead you in the right place. One who follows their own path to their own fate also chases their own destiny. We are not lemmings or sheep, we are responsible, emotional, strong people. Our spiritual discretion will weed out the bad and lead us to higher ground.
