Meditation (or 'bhavana' in pali) is essential to a being's development. Meditation is a sort of reinforcement found all over the world in several different schools of thought, and is consider end key to finding enlightenment. Meditation should be taken with care, as to not focus on an existing problem. If you attempt to meditate when you are under mental duress, you may find yourself focusing only on the problem and in the process cause more duress. Meditation is best used to stabilize or being, and is likened to giving your conscious a breath of fresh air.
The Buddha taught many kinds of meditation, localizing towards different kinds of problems. There is certain types of meditations, ones that focus on breathing, as well as ones that focus on mantras. Mediation is powerful. Meditation transforms the mind. Focusing on positive energy and kind thoughts are the key to any successful meditation session. It's good to try sessions of 15 minutes first, and work towards a goal of up to 30-45 minutes as much as time allows in your schedule. I understand the trials of life can be demanding, and your time may be limited.
Meditation can be used to ponder this broken world's mysteries. (In fact, I do all the time! I never come to a solution for any of them, though). I feel enlightened each time, though.) Alleviation comes from within, and meditation unlocks our core, where all makes sense. Use your investigation skills during meditation, and examine yourself. Smooth your rough spots inside your mind. Breathe, remember to breathe.
Remember the four sublime states. Loving kindness, equanimity, sympathetic joy, and compassion. To focus in any or all of these during meditation is perfectly okay. In fact, it's a good place to start. See yourself inside, and better yourself outside. Your inward appearance reflects outwardly as well. If you can tame the beast inside, your meditation has worked wonders. Remember to keep positive. Positive energy is the light to your path. Always walk on the well lit path, for it is easy to step out into the unknown in life and not be prepared for it. Meditation takes us to that higher ground, so that we may be ready for life's surprises.
In conclusion, there is several subtle, yet prominent characteristics to both meditation and our state while we meditate. There is many things we must understand in this life, and we know meditation prepares the mind to grasp these things. A mind is a horrible thing to waste. There is much positive reinforcement in meditation. Meditation Is the natural way to transform our minds and become greater, at peace. Meditation can be difficult for some. Meditation must be done when you are in a calm state or it may backfire on you, increasing your stress and anxiety. Meditation is not a means to obtain power, but is a great way to center ourselves and strive for that impossible goal of nirvana, the ultimate reality.
