The Role Wisdom Plays

When wisdom is working correctly in our life, it gives us a fresh, unbiased view of situations that are inherited perspective would not be able to see correctly. Wisdom defeats any illusions that we may have a tough time seeing through. Wisdom is at the center of Buddhist teachings, although for those chasing after wisdom (and ultimately enlightenment) it can be quite distant and hard to grasp.

Intellect and wisdom form a yin yang-like bond, where one simply cannot move efficiently without the other. One can be brilliant, spouting with knowledge but without wisdom they will never be able to apply that knowledge, making the knowledge worthless. There is definitely a synergy between the two, and it is not without merit to believe that knowledge is indeed worthless. However,  knowledge in the hands of one who has an adept spirit will eventually find a way to bring wisdom into fruition.

A crystal clear mirror with no reflection is also worthless. Wisdom's role in our mind is to provide an image of reality in that mirror. Have you ever read something or watched an instructional video and you were left clueless on what to do? Wisdom is exactly what you need. Wisdom, one might argue, comes from experience. First comes knowledge, then comes experience, and finally the by product of both is wisdom. Wisdom is the pearl of this world.

Buddha is one who gives freely flowing wisdom to those who have an open heart and mind.  One.must be willing to learn if they are to become wise. One might say that one must "come of age" before they can learn. Wisdom is indeed an unforgiving mistress. As mentioned in previous posts on this blog, compassion goes hand in hand with wisdom.  The inner workings of this world are only accessible to those who are compassionate towards others in this world. I am not lead to believe anyone who is cruel towards others is wise..

As we also have discussed before, you should know how to exercise self control. You must control your own mind before  That's right.  Before we can create happiness for others we have to be able to create happiness for ourselves. One must fulfill themselves before they can be selfless and fulfill other's desires. Explore yourself, find your talents and hobbies that you enjoy and motivate you. After a certain degree of mastery of your self is discovered, then you can use those developed talents to serve others. Additionally, those hobbies you found an interest in you can engage in with others and pass on things you know about that said interest.  Does not one aim to make themselves happy?

To conclude we have found out wisdom is a cornerstone in Buddhism. One needs wisdom to utilize knowledge, and knowledge has a direct relationship with wisdom. Self sacrifice is also a necessity in Buddhism. One must master themselves before compassion begins. Go forth and experience all this world for all it has to offer.
