Superstition And Sensibility

Superstition And Sensibility

Superstition runs rampant where sensibility is lacking. For thousands of years, superstition has ruled the human mind. From ancient myth and legends to modern day distrust, we have not ever gotten over our primitive fears. We do not really live in a place where conspiracy lurks around every corner, or do we? The thing that gave birth to our silly little superstitions and beliefs riddles us, and is what keeps us from going forward with our actions in life, even to this day.

Are the legends and myths of old really true? Are there really corpses that rise from the grave to torment and attack the living each night? To understand what gave birth to modern day superstition, we must think about the myths of old. People throughout the ages have believed that both spirit and monster exist and that they have came to feed off the living and play tricks on them. We don't know where and when these myths and legends originated but we have never completely dismissed the idea of things such as ghosts, aliens, vampires, lycanthropes, and zombies. Are these things imaginary, or are they truly exist? Could they perhaps live in a realm separate but close to our own? Do they really come out at night to claim our world as their own until the sun rises again? We may never know.

Now, here is the point of all of this talk about folklore and myth. Myth is more conceivable than any sort of superstition. We are not really going to have bad luck if we step on a crack, walk under a ladder or break a mirror. Honestly, that sounds like superstition born from some kind of myth. I'm not the victim of some sort of conspiracy. We are creatures that are born from the highest order of species and we need to move past our superstitious ways. Our fears in life are often irrational, like most fears. Superstition often couples with past experiences and can be attributed to some sort of psychiatric or traumatic illness. We need to respect each other, and help one another move past our superstitions. We could all take a little more effort to nurture and care for one another, they are your fellow brother and sister, after all, and you should love them.

We should never believe in superstitious nonsense. Remember, ghosts and ghouls are much more believable than confounded fear. The dark does exist, yes, but your superstition is always unfounded and unhealthy. You can move past what holds you back in life. There is no need to believe in what cannot hurt you, and superstitious does indeed imply imaginary. Our superstitions are often generated from someone else's experiences, and often we know the person who had the bad experience very well. We may avoid an activity based off of that other person's outcome. It is not right to believe that one experience will create the same undesired effect for everyone. This is the pinnacle of superstition and it is also what a close-minded person would think. Whatever happened to "what is right for one, may not be right for others?"  If we are truly unique, then wouldn't it be safe to say we should all seek out different things to experience and draw out our own personal opinion that is not based on the opinion of someone else? What works for one, does not always work for many.

Our legends are far more feasible than the mass hysteria of society. One cannot allow superstition and others’ bad experiences to rule their own mind. We are a living, breathing, complex and unique creature that was made to live life to the fullest. Eliminate your fear, go out there and form your own opinion. We can't follow what others tell us, as our own opinion may be much more positive than all those others out there telling you what to think. Live for others, but think for yourself.
