Doing the Right Thing

  Doing the Right Thing

Doing the right thing is difficult and cryptic in this day and age. Morality isn't taught by schools, and some schools even go as far as to teach things that are questionable. One reported school went as far to require a course on Latin, then instead of teaching the language taught mythology, which is a pagan religion. (How is this necessary for a undergrad student to learn?) Misdirection creeps everywhere, and we continue to blind our youth from actual moral fiber. When we do know what is the right thing to do, we are faced with the obstacle of the judging eyes of our friends and family. That's it: not even our our friends and family support us in our decision to do what's right.

How do we overcome society's rising prestigious against doing what's right? We have to carve our own fate: we cannot let our broken world drag us down.  Doing the right thing carries its own reward and garners other's respect. You won't become rich doing what's right, but you will gain karmic favor. Who knows? You might gain admiration from a few good people. This is priceless and should be chased after. Remember that those who are compassionate and loving will gain the most peace of mind. It pays to pursue justice, and social justice is very important. Do not shut the door on your fellow being. Society will hate you, and your friends may disown you, but to remain upright is serene.

 Upholding justice

As mentioned in the previous section, we spoke briefly about the nature of morality. Morality, at it's core, is a simple idea to grasp. However, its quite the opposite to do. Most people do not like to become involved with situations. A person bleeding to death in any city could be driven past by hundreds of people before even one of those drivers stop to even think about helping the victim. Karma is a cruel mistress: those who do not care about their fellow person in need will reap what they have sown.

You will have to meditate both day and night on the concept of morality. You must exercise it, and become attune to your surroundings. Do what is right in your eyes, and they will become the eyes of others. You will become something of a bigger whole. Do not trade in your enlightenment for evil. If everyone upheld justice, there would be no strife. Everyone suffers though, and that balance of the scales of dharma always exists. This is an enigma that not even the deepest sage can comprehend.

  Why is there hate?

People will hate you for doing and acting upon what is right. This hate is something you must not mind if you are to become a loving, compassionate, karmic being. Their hate they direct towards you will be thrown at you from every direction. The hate they throw at you will be a trial you must overcome. Only the truly strong and developed have what it takes to rise above the hate. Hate will always be there to balance out this universe. If anyone can understand the mystery of karma, then they will always walk upright. But when you fall from the upright path, you will truly know what it is like to suffer. Keep the eightfold path, (discussed in an earlier post) and you will have the power to do what is right and rise above the hate. I cannot liberate you, but your mind and actions can.
