Why Teen Depression?

Why Teen Depression?

We always ask this. Why do we suffer from teen depression? It makes us believe that there is something wrong with us, that we aren't like other kids. So, why are we depressed? It's simple, really. We teens face a much more difficult life than our parents. That may sound kinda strange, but, think. Adults aren't in our world where it's constantly filled with  new and extreme pressure. To a teen, life is all about acceptance. We want people to like us. We want to have friends and admiration from our fellow classmates. We want to feel special. The only problem with all of this is that we hardly ever get any of this, and, you know what? It makes us feel bad.

So why did anyone ever make this life where we often feel sad and confused? Who could ever possibly want to feel sad? Is it funny to people that some nights we lay there and cry ourselves to sleep? It's painful, it really is. I remember a time when my dad said that life isn't about what happens to us but instead how we react to what happens to us. How right he is. We can't control what happens to us, as often our actions won't make life give us what we want. With constant problems that are often multiplied by unnecessary stress put on us by school and social media, it's hard to avoid bad thoughts that whisper your name when you are at sanity's end. Things like hurting yourself and drug use become an escape from the world we believe hates us. We want to get away from it all. Doesn't everyone, though? This world sucks.

Why teen depression happens is simple. It's because of the burden our generation has been given. We will be truly the strongest generation to ever live if we escape teenagehood alive. Baby Boomers don't have anything on us. Millennials, like us, have what I consider a strong will to live and greater emotional strength than anyone else. We can beat teen depression, we just have to believe that we are strong enough to survive. Find treatment, find a support system, and, please, don't hurt yourself. You're beautiful just the way you are. I know I'm only thirteen, but I'm still a teenager. We share this burden together.
