Family: Ancestry And Kin

Today's article is all about family. Whether we love them or hate them, we all have to deal with our family. Many of us don't know much about our ancestry, and some of us don't even know our whole extended family. Some of us don't even know our own parents and my sympathy goes out to you who don't. We all want to know where our roots come from, and some of us are even paying money in an attempt to learn about our ancestors. Today we are going to do some self-discovery together.

Familiar Ties

Our family is often the first people we know in life. We love dad and mom, and either get along or compete (sometimes both) with our brothers and sisters. Our grandparents love us, and our cousins are our friends. Yet, what about the family we don’t know? Are they more than just gravestones with brief records on them? Are they a part of us, ourselves somehow carrying on their memories and skills? Perhaps, as we as a group of people have heard of both the concepts of DNA and lineage. As far as their actual existence or lack thereof I have a few thoughts. I believe through lineage I was made into an objective and conscientious writer. I have heard much about bloodlines. Ancient traditions dictate that blood is the source of all life. Does that mean the blood in me transmits my ability to write? Probably not, but it sure is fun to imagine. Do any of your family members, living or past, have skills or abilities the same as you? It might be fun to explore. Maybe you could even ask your elders about their parents and grandparents and what they were like. It’s by far the easiest way to explore our family history and tree. I don’t honestly know much about my great grandparents but I do know where one set was from. My grandmother’s parents were from Russia and England, and I think that is pretty cool. My grandmother hails from Irish descent, and my namesake is from Germany, being my great grandfather, who was a very honarable man who is sorely missed. I uphold tradition, as things associated with all my family are closely guarded, as I would defend my family’s honor with my heart, soul, and life. To me, honor above all else, as I live by my own soul, which I believe is radient, as all souls are.

Exercises In Family Ancestry

By studying your family you can learn much about who and where you come from. For my American readers, we must realize that we all weren’t magically born here. We are descendents from great people and greater lands, and we must honor them and our distant homelands. We are more than just a person who randomly entered this world. We are people who carry on our family and their burdens, be them great or small. I love everyone, and respect all people world round. We should take time to write down each known family members, as we can often use this information to study genelogy at our local libraries. I live in Spokane, Washington here in the states, and it is a moderately-sized town which has many branches with the downtown library serving as the main hub, where they have a geneology room where you can freely study your family history. I highly recommend that you also visit your local cemetary and visit your deceased family members as this is one of the most important things I have ever known. Honor your living and dead family, as they are who make you who you are.
