Your True Friends

Your True Friends

Sometimes those who we think are our real friends really aren't, and those who are may be hidden in the background. We've all heard about the back stabbers, as even Julius Caeser had with Brutus. (Et tu, Brutus?) How are we to ever know who is really our true friends? Let’s look into our lives, and examine what makes a true friend.

Qualities of a True Friend

1. Loyalty
The first one to come to mind for me. A friend who is loyal is willing to die for you or with you. Keep loyal friends close to you and your heart.

2. Love

A friend who loves you will always care for you deeply. They will always be there for you. One who loves you will guide you, protect you, and always give their all for your desires. If you love someone, you will sacrifice yourself in every way for them.

3. Respect

Respect is similar to both honor and love. One who respects you will never push you too far and won’t take you away from your dreams. A friend who respects you will never do something to hurt you, for they honor you that much. Look for honesty in your friends, as they will always give you the best advice.

4. Honesty

A friend will always be honest with you. That doesn’t mean they won’t spare your feelings. However, if a friend is confronted, a true one will always tell you the raw truth.

5. Charity

A friend who loves you will share things with you, be it their personal affairs or their good fortune. A friend loves to share their news, be it good or bad, bringing you closer to them. A friend always will give to you in your time of need, be it themselves or their resources.

6. Sympathy

Yes, sympathy is number six. God, I could not tell you how bad I would love to have someone feel for me when I had fallen. There are so many beautiful things about sympathy, as it can help mend those who have been broken. So why not feel bad for those who have their wings clipped? Maybe you'll help them fly.

7. Empathy

It is no surprise that I would list empathy after sympathy. The ability to match moods with someone has a beneficial effect. As long as you do not mirror negative emotions to a friend, empathy is a great way to show your friends how much you love them. Share in your friend’s victories.

8. Brotherhood or Sisterhood

When we are more than friends, we are like siblings. To have a brother or sister who is a friend then we have the greatest friend indeed. A friend is great, but a brother or sister is even better.

Conclusion

Friends are something everyone needs. We are more than just a creature that can survive solely on our own. Whether it is your best friend, a girlfriend or boyfriend, a wife or husband, or even a cousin or an actual brother or sister who is also a friend to you, then by all means, they are worth having. Friends are something I really value, as they may be far away they are always close in heart. For those of you who are reading this, I consider you all friends, for I am bleeding on paper for you all. We are never away, as we are all here for a reason, as am I. I love you all, and that is ceaseless. Go out there, make friends, and show them the friend you want them to be personally through your own example.
