Our Home, our Sanctuary

Our Home, our Sanctuary

Our homes are indeed sacred to us. Our home is more than a place to eat and a place to sleep, for our homes are where the intricate and intimate aspects of our lives occur. Our home lives are quite different than the appearances we keep up at work and socially outside of our home. Many people believe their home is their sanctuary, and I would wholeheartedly agree. Our home is a place of both solitude and family life, and should always be a place of peace. I think we know this isn't always the case.

Our homes, whether living alone or with others, can become a place of war. War with our family, our friends, or even with ourselves. The home is a place that we must take care of and guard, for a home that is at war is a place of our nightmares. We must lead by example at home when with our family, for they will love you and respect you for it. When alone, make sure you meditate when you can. Meditation promotes a healthy mind. Do whatever you can to keep your home a sanctuary. Do not let yourself become disturbed in the place where you dwell and relax. Make simple rules for yourself to have your place of refuge be exactly that.

What though, when things inside our become out of our control, be it from friends and family, or your own troubles? We must follow some simple rules for our own home's sanctity and peace:

-Keep your mind happy and healthy at home, and prevent your own mind from becoming troubled.

-Encourage your guests and family to enjoy each other's company without fights or arguments. Being at war with our loved ones is one of the worst sufferings we can have.

-Do relaxing activities at night. Read a book, meditate, do a hobby, or even write in a journal.

-Keep your home clean. A tidy home is a happy home.

-Eat and drink healthy. Our home should be a place when we eat only appropriate and healthy foods.

Our home, quite simply, should be one of love, peace, and joy. We should always keep in mind those very things that keep our home a place of rest and safety. It's really hard to be enlightened and continue on a path of inner journey if your home is chaotic and disturbed. Do everything you can to let your guests and family understand that your home is not a warzone. They will definately love you for your dedication to them and their happiness as well.

We cannot allow our home condition to become rundown. Some believe the condition of a household is a reflection of the head of the household and/or their family. Simple things such as keeping plants and gardening help center us and also bring a healthy appearance to our home. I have enjoyed keeping leafy plants in the past that require a little patience and love to turn them into magnificent, beautiful plants. Also, doing arts and crafts help a person to be fun and creative in their own home, and is a real joy.

Conclusion

Always keep your home a sanctuary for rest and enjoyment. Keep the peace and promote healthy and positive growth for you, your visitors, and your family. We must love our abode as if it is an extension of our heart and soul. I know it can become difficult when no one in your home has unity and harmony with each other. Picture your home as more than just a place to crash, but a place of happiness and joy, your sanctuary.
