Combating our own Demons from the Past
The term "demons from your past" may be something you have heard before. Quite honestly, they really aren't so much demons but what they are bad memories, habits, and more. For all I tents and purpose we will be discussing bad memories and thoughts from the past. It's important to note that these demons from the past may manifest into bigger problems, such as post-tramautic stress disorder. Your past life will haunt you every chance it gets, and it's important to know how to control your memories and look at the positive and present. Now, let us learn about techniques to help ourselves understand both ourselves and our scars better.
Our Hurtful Past
We all have past wounds from bad experiences. Everyone alive has suffered at some point in their life. That includes you and I, and even great men and woman we admire. It is important to recognize both how we felt during those difficult times in our past and also how we felt. Sometimes, but not too often, our past bad experiences resulted from impaired judgment. Do not believe that you should not judge another's intentions. There are many people in this broken world who would love to make you fall and leave you behind.
The truth is that suffering does indeed come from the mind. Our heart is often confused for our mind. Emotions can be recognized as an extreme thought. Thoughts beget emotions, and negative emotions produce suffering. There is no words which can describe a painful past memory or flashback than devastating. Thus, we must work actively to keep our mind in the present, our hope in front of us, and our hands busy. We think the most when we are not preoccupied.
Defeating our Pain and Habits from the Past
They say "old habits die hard." We know all too well how past negative habits can be reignited with the simplest slip of the conscious. Whether it be a nicotine adduction or even a sexual addiction it can be easily stirred up if you are not careful. Reevaluating your goals in life will be a good way for you to keep firm footing. Bad habits will only come back to haunt you if you do not have your priorities straight. We don't have to he a slave to our hurtful old habits. We should remember why they are in the past.
We have friends and family that count on us as a responsible adult. During stressful situations we often begin to think about the past. Sometimes, we may even think the past was better than where we are now. This is absolutely not true. Human progression becomes better with age. However, if our past habits come back into our lives we will regress. Set your eyes on the sky, and don't look back.
The Solution
What is our way of eliminating the past? Simply put, we cannot fully escape our past! Hold onto the memories, or completely let go? The only way to be fully committed to our present times and future that is constantly coming is to not think about the past, not once! You'll thank yourself when the trauma and headaches are lessened.
We must prepare ourselves for what is to come in our lives. Getting remarried? Don't even think about your past spouse. Going for a new job? Don't think about how great it was at the old one. Going to college? Time to forget about high school!
Conclusion
Our last cannot be loosened completely from our mind. We must be vigilant and remember what we love in this day and age. Remember what we are here for. Make a new year's resolution to look forward, not back. You can conquer your past demons.
