Pride and the Human Nature

This may be a sensitive issue for some. Simply put one's self image may be tied into pride (Or maybe humility, depending how far along you are on your journey of self discovery.) How do you perceive yourself? Being confident and being proud are two different things yet I'm not sure how just either of them are. How do you see yourself? Are you the center of everyone's attention in your mind, or are you more like a wall flower in this party we call life?

Pride is our worst enemy, full of desire and hatred. The one who is humble will succeed without expecting in life. Pride dwells inside each human, including you and me. How on earth do we combat such a for? When someone gives us praise we are the first to swell up with pride. The only thing you can do is to recognize what you are proud of and work to curb your emotions. It's difficult, and no matter how much you meditate and focus on the mantra of humility you will still fail from time to time.

Try this for a mental exercise. Close your eyes and envision a few things you take pride in, be them objects or abilities. Did many come to mind? Or was the slate blank? Once we see the err in our life, you are closer to understanding true human nature. Do desire to be a god or animal like? Animals are beasts, free from hate and err. Human gods have no place in  life. How will you struggle to become like our four legged friends? Focus on it.....for a warrior has no pride and does not strive towards perfection. Constantly reach towards nirvana.

Pride destroyed each great general, and is the glaring reflection of every leader. There is such hope for both them and you. Never let a compliment go to your head and never let title dictate behavior. You are a part of humanity, a person. No matter how much you lust after the gems of this world's pleasure you still are a human in an ocean of people. You are no different from others, as am I am just a person too. This is the single most important thing I can recount to you. Let pride be your enemy.

Meditate constantly, focusing on your human flaws.  Pride constitutes nearly all of them. Go to that deep inner sanctum of your mind, and note what you see at the center of it. Is your job, family, friends or possessions?  Think of the emotions tied to each, are any of them selfish emotions, such as pride or desire? Ask yourself what you're going to do with those emotions. Will you keep the good inside, those warm feelings close to your heart? Or will you dwell forever on greed and envy? I am sure you know what to do with those negative emotions. Cast them into the serene ocean of our conscience and let them float away. May your self image turn into a kind giant amongst men.
