Fear and Phobia

Fear is natural, and part of the human state. However, there is healthy and unhealthy types of fear, hence fear and phobia. The difference between them would seem obvious but to the human mind it is not. The mind has countless fears, many of what could be considered unhealthy.

There is fear of death, fear of illness, fear of commitment,, fear of rejection, fear of heights, fear of relationships, fear of losing our job, fear of dentists, the list goes on and on. But which are unhealthy and healthy fears? Face it: no matter who you are fear exists inside of you.

Unhealthy fear is sometimes tied into personality types. For example, if we are boastful we should not be afraid of rejection. If we see the doctor regularly we should not be afraid of a checkup or physical. If we drive a motorcycle we shouldn't be afraid of crashing. If we work at a restaurant we shouldn't be afraid of working an oven. Naturally we shouldn't have these fears and if we do they are unhealthy.

Healthy fears are things that are related more to safety. If someone is sick we shouldn't be around them. If there is a dangerous animal nearby we shouldn't be around it. If its dangerous to go swim in the ocean we shouldn't be in it. If you can get injured from improper use of a device then you should operate it properly.  I'm sure you can think of many more.

All fears come from the mind, as all sufferings.  To rid of yourself of fear and phobia, you must still your mind. We must remember it is not possible to control events around us and if we control our mind, there should be no reason to attempt to control anything else. If we label fear then many may call fears that we have "delusions". If this world and life is but s dream then we are to have nightmares from time to time. Control the mind and the nightmares and so called delusions will disappear.

Fear will come and go throughout anyone's life and the anxieties and phobias that go hand in hand with all fears. The only thing to fear is fear itself.  Control your mind and fears will dissipate.  You will always struggle with frailties of the mind but what you choose to do about them is completely up to you and the choices you make will shape you as a person.

Face your fears, and you will become a more complete person. Fears are animalistic. I am by far not fearless but I do know that I have them myself. What they are change from time to time and I focus my mind and meditate on what they are, so I may face them head on. You should do the same, as those fears won't go away until you encounter and eradicate them in your.mind. Remember, the first step to recovery is admittance. Live with your own karma, as even you will become all but invulnerable to fear.
