Meditation is something that is seldom used and misconstrued. Meditation, when incorporated into the daily life of a person, can be very beneficial. It is something that strengthens mind, body, spirit, and soul. Its use is crucial for maintaining that deep inner connection between our heart and mind.
What is meditation? Meditation, in a lesser degree, is focusing on mantras, breathing exercises, and postures, quite possibly all at once. Often the lotus posture is used (I use typical cross legged, most times) and a sound is focused upon, letting your mind go blank. Deep breaths through the nose are employed, with our hands kept in a sign of our choosing (I use middle and ring fingers together between both hands, thumbs joined up, and pinkies residing down). This is repeated as long as often as you'd like, and is great for dealing with negative emotions. Breathe in, breathe out, releasing our negative emotions and thoughts, going to that special, serene place in your mind. Nothing can touch you there, it's that inner sanctuary deep within all of us. A trip there is worth its weight in gold and the most fantastic riches in the world. Nothing is more valuable than inner peace.
Why should you do such a thing? In all honesty, meditation is right for some people, but not all. Doing such exercises will not make you a master over night and it may seem even frustrating at first. It is an ancient practice and may even seem silly to people living in the western hemisphere. I'm not here to preach meditation to the masses, yet hopefully guide a select few to the up most path. For those who already meditate, I will say that it is worth looking into ki/qi/chakra points to focus on during meditation. A cleared mind is a happy mind.
Be one with yourself and serve others. Meditation is a small component to unlocking your mind and body's potential, and I hope I have encouraged you in a small way. Life is long and reincarnation is eminent to those ready to take up a righteous path. Martial artists and monks are some of the strongest people in the world and many employ meditation to its fullest, which is exponential.
